an...interesting day.
i think everyone was a little put off this morning in class with my running around and quick retorts. what can i say, i was on a mission. i needed to flash two forms of identification for the lady signing the paychecks from the next few weeks. this is important stuff. once i finished with that, there was time to chill. except it's kind of hard to chill in nearly 100 degree weather. i processed film, which took me twice as long as it normally would have, on account of having to manually adjust the temp of the water with a big metal bucket and some ice cubes. 75 was still a little too warm, but things worked out okay. the images from last night as decent.
while wandering through the administration building today i ran in to my old best friend, from high school. i hadn't seen her in at least a year, and hadn't really hung out with her in well over two. we chatted quickly and made a movie date for the evening. work was a little dull, but we all did the best we could to entertain eachother and ourselves.
my friend showed up after closing, and i invited lindsay to come along with us to catch a film. she ended up not being able to go, a victim of mother's paranoia. [i'll make it up to you, promise.] so we took off towards peidmont, and after playing a little phone tag to try and figure out how to get to the theater, we arrived in north oakland with some time to kill. a little walk and some tea and poundcake later, we were sitting and waiting for the opening credits of "the anniversary party" to take the real world away.
the movie, i liked. the be honest i was impressed by the soundtrack [the eels -songs from electroshockblues- and jim white -aperfectdaytochasetornados- and the fiona apple cd alan cummings held in one scene.] and as soon as the closing credits rolled i found out why- the illustrious E does the music supervision. very cool. the film itself is high recommendable.
the evening. well. being with mayra was strange. not different, because it was decidedly un-different. i don't know if she was always likes this and i just never noticed, but she asks so many questions and then doesn't wait for the answer to ask another one. it would go like this:
"question"
"story story stor-"
"question question..?"
"well...answer answer answer. back to stor-"
"question blah blah"
"um..."
i mean thats putting it in really basic terms. but thats kind of how it felt. so i eventually grew quiet as she talked on and on about michael, life in spain, old friends and our ever-advancing age. at one point i stared out the window past my two dollar cup of dragonjasmine tea, and she stopped and said "you look sad," and i knew she could still pick me out of a lineup any time, no matter how different i make myself on the outside.
"no, i'm just thinking," i say, putting away the notebook.
the alarm rings in five hours. good night, good morning.
