so i've decided that one thing i can do to reduce my physical consumption is buy music on iTunes. it's small, but it means less driving to the record store, less purchasing of plastic-wrapped items, and less paper and plastic used to store my purchase. it means more money directly to the recording artists (or so i'm led to believe.) but it also means not supporting local music shops, and not being able to hold amazing album artwork in my hand, and not having a physical copy of the music should the digital be compromised. so there are ups and downs.
i've been trying to download some "new to me" music, because i've been sorely out of the scene of what's new, lately. (case in point: i got an iPod for xmas a couple years ago. i put music on it once, and have not updated it since. it's even still formatted to a Mac, even though i don't own one.) i'm also picking up some older albums that i know and love, but for some reason don't own on cd (lost the disc, bought the tape when i was frickin' 13 years old, etc.)
one of those albums is Example by For Squirrels, which i haven't heard in a long while (lost the disc.)
i'm listening to it now, and it is definitely a record that has stood up over time.
i still remember all the words to all the songs, and i am filled with a strong urge to go driving and sing along at the top of my lungs.
that's what music should do.
