in memory of oscar grant.
Jan. 7th, 2009 09:05 pmoscar grant, the young man who was murdered execution-style on new year's eve by BART police officer in oakland, was buried this morning.
after the funeral, a protest started to form at the Fruitvale BART station (closest station to my house, natch.)
at this hour, downtown Oakland has exploded into protest. CBS5 has a good series of videos and updates, including live helicopter footage of the protests.
i didn't find out about this murder until well after it happened (the news didn't travel down to los angeles) and i'm really f'ing pissed off about it. if you've seen the video of the shooting (it's easy to find online) you'll know why.
part of me wants to go out and show my support, and the other part of me knows that i am probably much safer staying put.
